The breed standard (at least in Germany, where both originated): Grosser Muensterlaender always any combination of black and white. Kleiner Muensterlaender any combination of liver and white.
I kept small Muensterlaender imports as personal pets and initially for hunting since 1973. My present b###h is going to be 14y this coming June. She is starting to get a bit senile now, but still romps around like a puppy at times.
My previous male almost made 15y. He even was a great ocean going sailor. Both had superior intellect and great noses.
For anyone considering these dogs as a companion dog, PLEASE remember, that they are relatively high maintenance dogs. They want to be exercised and mentally challenged, and they need regular grooming. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will be rewarded with a faithful even tempered companion second to none.
