Some of you might remember, I'd purchased an electronic cigarette a while back, in an attempt to make things like shopping possible for me again. I'd just like to tell everyone to go out and purchase one, it really has made me a happier woman!
Let me state this first: I need to smoke real cigarettes, and do not intend to stop doing so. In an ideal world, I would never be without a lit cigarette between my lips, during any task I must perform. But, as the anti-smoking nazis slowly get their way, more and more places become non-smoking.
I will admit that my habit is a little on the... strong side *blush*. I have been unable to do any real food shopping, clothes shopping, or anything of the sort in a few years, due to my habit. It has been embarrasing to leave a cart full of food near-ish the door of the supermarket, just so I can step out to chain-smoke a few cigarettes as quickly as I can before the ice cream melts in the cart. Shopping has been broken up into 15 to 30-minute excursions of uncomfortable cravings for me for many years. While I have become very efficient when I shop to accommodate my need to smoke, it's really not much 'fun' for me.
The electronic cigarette, though, provides just enough feeling in my chest and much-needed nicotine to allow me to go about 45 minutes without a real cigarette. This has been a huge boon to me, allowing me to actually peruse the ethnic food isles in the grocery store, try on a few dresses, and even attend a play by a local troupe (thankfully, they had an intermission!). I cannot tell you how happy I am over this
To avoid the 'stares' and questions I used to get when I first began using it, I've taken to carrying around a cleaned out McDonald's drink cup with me, with the electronic cigarette in place instead of the straw. At simple glance, no one is the wiser, and I can keep my cravings mostly satiated while I go about my daily business.
The only real complaint I have is how light it is. I find myself taking very deep drags, basically filling my lungs with the 'fog machine smoke' it contains, every 30 seconds to a minute. I hold it as long as I can before exhaling from my nose, as that minimizes any trace of visible 'smoke'. There is no smell, so that's the only 'giveaway' I have to hide.
I still would prefer not to have to use it. I'd rather just keep a Newport, or even better, a Misty Menthol Full Flavor, lit at all times to breathe from. But these electronic cigarettes, at least, give me back a little bit of my freedom from my habit, and I have to say it's wonderful
