I think DeeDee raises a good point and offers something quite instructive given your stated goal.
My guess is that if DeeDee were even contemplating battling her addiction to nicotine the fact that your possibly well-meaning comment came across as insulting would have shut you out of any supporting role in her battle.
As an aside, DeeDee, given your comments on your smoking -- both volume and dependence -- to date I have made a logical leap that you are in fact addicted. If you're not, please accept my apologies.
Anyway Joe, our Mothers & Grandmothers used to tell us that you can attract more flies with honey than vinegar. Perhaps their old adage can help you as you continue to attempt to help others come to grips with their own recovery.
