Here in the good old Hawke bay, the Estuary in Particular, late August through to early May. Sea lettuce, Tuatuas, or mussels or a combination of both. Im not saying you wont catch one at this time of year up the Estuary, but the numbers are seriously deminshed, i believe they head out into the open ocean over the reefs through winter, and back into the estuary when the waters warm, and the sea lettuce, starts growing more prolific due to the increased sunlight, through this period. The bulk of what they eat is that green sealettuce, and there usually chocka full of it. Great fun to catch, drop down on the size of ya tackle, and theyll most certainly satisfy your rod bending withdrawls.
