Opito Bay is on the east side of the Coro above Whitianga a ways.The open flat bays/beaches round there are true pencil sharpener territory!However more fish are nailed from the rocks.
Each year the Kuaotunu Fire Brigade holds a winter slammer surfcasting comp and Opito is one of the bays within the contest boundaries.
The weather truly sucked the day of the comp... and the night before.The VanHilton was being rock and rolled all night by huge gale force blasts of freezing rain! You did yourself a favour by not knowing about the comp.
The next day we went home in sunshine and very little wind.Typical.
