Tried the Baby Salmon out today. Had a pack of free flow ones in the freezer. Just a tad mushy, but bait cotton took care of that. First cast, bang, one minute later a decent fiesty kahawai. Second cast bang again, another nice fat plump Kahawai. Quiet for a while, then bang another one. And that was it for a while. Then bang again, but lost the last one, it fell off. Have tried salting down a couple of salmon fillets tonite, to see how they turn out. Got mine from Countdown. Not a bad price either. Around 8 bucks for a kilo. Which was 9 Salmon. Get about 6 baits per fish. I use size 3 hooks so don't put a huge bait on. More for distance than anything. So they worked today. Heading out again tomorrow, snapper still being caught down here in the Buller. In fact it has been a great year for snapper down here. A couple of guys I know fish off the Westport(Buller river Tiphead. One has had 29 snapper in the last two months, the other 35.
My fishing buddy has had 18 of the beach. The best 8lb. Unfortunately due to a few other engagements I havent been out that much. So I have nil. But one big one will take care of that.
