Reel replacement advice

For many years I have fished with a DAM Quick 380 and love the reel. However it's finally time to replace it and I am looking for some advice.I'm fairly flexible on pricing so say in the $300 range (or less of course) would be fine. Any advice for an fairly experienced caster? Many thanks.

Daiwa windcast 5500 a bit over the 300 but a really nice reel. Disclaimer .Hamills staff member.

Another reel that's worth a look is the new Abu 57c it has a novel locking system to lock the spool when casting its a bit hard to explain but I like it (might YouTube it) . They retail for around $225.00 Both of these reels are worth a good look.

iv got a crosscast which seems to be the cheaper version of the windcast $150.best reel for the price i reckon

Only thing that bugs me on the crosscast is the lack of automatic bail trip . Otherwise its a very good bit of kit . Disclaimer .Hamills staff member.

Have a look at thr Pflueger Salt 80. Going really well for me. Excellent drag. Only a medium long cast spool but hitting 100m with clipped dow baits with ease. about $240.00

I took a Crosscast with me up the far north as my submarine reel(wading), handled well, tho the drag tensioning is quite all on or all off. Pros are nice deep long cast spool, lightweight, and best feature that all reels should have is the bail lock system, to stop those un-foreseen bustoffs. The okuma axeon and oryx were shockas for that. Daiwa em cast is hard to go past at those pingers round 250

I've been using a Shimano Ultegra. Nice, smooth, LIGHT, and good distance. Can take some getting used to the drag system, but once sorted its easy. A bit more than the $300, but worth the $$.

I remember you swearing at that reel and threatening to make it the start of an artificial reef on south beach at Wanganui a few years back Jase.

I went and tried all reels mentioned in a shop or two today and ended up buying the Pfleuger Salt 80. Just felt a bit sturdier, looked simpler and like it would stand up to the beach environemnt a bit better. I'll let you know how I go. many thanks for all the advice.

Fantastic reel, never had an issue with it, serviced well, keeps on going..Sad that it has now been overshadowed by my overhead reels. Prices have dropped over the years though. Good things come to those who bait.

Panser the 12000d has a short spool and is more suited to braid.looks and feels solid.

I also have had a BBR for number of years with only a few small things going wrong, it does have very nice line lay and it holds a truck load of line. You will notice the extra weight compared to say Emcast 5500, again it is a reasonably solid reel and are well serviced as far as parts go.

Yea mate have a 6500B an love it contemplated on going to a barrel but think a BBR could be worth a crack.

i got a daiwa windcast used twice going cheap cant use any more as lost a finger tip so going to use overheads

What Phill said. The line lay is fautless. I own a few and have thrashd the living crap outer them over several years. Line roller bearings and spacers seem to be the most consistent parts needing replacement, other than a few other minor hickups.They have overhauled the old big btr and brought out a lighter bodied version of the original, and now with sealed bearings it should be the fruit.
