anyone here caught an elephant fish between wanganui and tangimoana? I heard someone catch one on a long line but how about surfcasting?

I fished that area for nearly 20 years and never heard of elephant fish being caught around there. I would imagine you could though. They get them 100km south, so it could happen.

yeah Ive not heard anyone talk about it before around here, would like to catch one just to say ive done it but dont wanna go right out of my way to get one

Late January seems to be the absolute best time to do it over the full moon.
