I know this is the classifieds area, but it's also a good place to post seeing how Hurricanes don't have a forum.
In an attempt to control the cost of our engines, a vote was passed years ago to outlaw aluminum flywheels. Recently the cost of Honda/Clone parts has drastically been reduced due to popularity and demand. We would like to vote FOR THE OPTION (not mandatory) to run aluminum flywheels.
For safety reasons alone, we should all consider this. It doesn't take much searching the net, or talking to engine builders, before you start hearing about horrible injuries and death from these exploding. It's not always the driver of the car that gets hurt either. Can you imagine being the driver directly behind and in-line with a flywheel that decides to let go? It's a danger to ALL drivers, track officials, and spectators.
The money thing: A $180 aluminum flywheel that is designed to NOT explode is a cheap investment compared to the time and money most have into their engines. We had a magnet come off one of our flywheels, and almost lost the entire block! A $.02 screw holding the magnet to the flywheel almost cost us weeks of time, and money. We have learned since then to improve our flywheels for strength and safety...but not everyone does this.
Building a shield around part of the flywheel is only putting a band aid on this problem. Yes, you could make something to protect the driver in the car, and behind. But that still doesn't protect what we all have invested in our engines and cars.
Again, we are not saying make this mandatory (yet), let's start making it an option. Could we please have a VOTE on OUR club rules with the club members involved!?
Kind Regards,
