I was 3rd class Radarman on the USS Norris DDE 859 the night that the tower collapsed. I was monitoring the scope that night when the tower went down. My job was to relay to the bridge the distant and direction to the target when the radar contact disappeared. When we arrived at the tower location it was gone and we started searching for survivors. I heard someone yelling up to the bridge a body was sighted in the water, I went out on deck to see what was happening and I saw a body of an airman floating in the water and a Boatswain's Mate attempted to grapple it with a grappling hook. The grappling hook hit the body and it sunk a short time later another airman’s body was seen on the surfaced and was recovered. The body was taken down to the ship freezer for safe keeping.
