Captain John Piatek, who commanded U.S.S. Norris 1965-66, passed away today, Nov.3 2009, at 5:20 pm, from apparent congestive heart failure. He passed peacefully, at home, with his loving family around him. Captain Piatek was a true countryman who was devoted to his country, his family, the United States Navy, and his religion.
After serving his country with zeal, courage, and integrity for thirty years, he retired and settled in Green Cove Springs, FL. He was actively involved in the community. He is survived by two daughters and one son, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
