You are right. We are a cost centre. The company makes money for its shareholders by cutting costs and if they could get away with paying you minimum wage they would. TBS does not pay minimum wage so you're already not working at it. You say you have a business degree, well woop dee doo. If you're at TBS it's done you a lot of good so far eh ? I guess the droids at corporate rejected your application for president and now you need to vent your frustrations. I learned long ago that the willing horse gets the work and the more you do the more they will want you to do till you drop. Then when you drop dead or god forbid injure yourself, management will dump you like a hot potatoe and look for the next willing horse. I've been around 20+ years and I'm not in a rut like you seem to think. I try to start each day with a positive attitude and when the unwashed masses come through the door I try to treat them the way I would like to be treated. Sounds like you're the one in a rut with a miserable life. If TBS is not your cup of tea then it's time for you to move on. On the subject of change. There are alot of us 200 series people who may be scared of change, but it does come like it or not. Most changes at TBS are not for the workers benefits but the shareholders.
When was the last time you saw this company say thanks for saving us x number of dollars so here's a nice raise in pay. That only happens at corporate office when someone figures out how to screw someone else further down the food chain. It's been the union that has gone to bat for guys like you & me for our share of the savings and profits from the industry. Even if I feel that the union just protects the screwups and those in the inner circle, I atleast go to the meetings and exercise my right to vote because I know that if we did not have a union then we'd really be up the creek. Even a bad union, as you see it, is better than no union in dealing with the company. Watch what you wish for because you might just get it and not the way you had hoped for. Try to have a nice day.
