Anyone who is running Firefox3 gets the update automatically. You don't need to announce it .... LOL
But here's something about FireFox 3 which annoys the crap out of me. It's happened to me THREE times now>.....
For some unknown reason, my history ABSOLUTELY wipes out and I can't tell which posts I've read or haven't.
I know where the problem resides but I don't know what causes it.
Old Netscape and Mozilla FF2 used to have this problem if there was a computer crash. They stored all the history in a file named "history.dat" What happened there is that the history.dat file remained dormant UNTIL the browser was shut down and then the new history would be added to the file. OK ..... so ...... if the new history got corrupted by a crash, the old history.dat file would be automatically trashed too and be replaced by an empty one. I could always tell instantly if the history.dat file was good or gone.
Well, FF3 has changed to a file called "places.sqlite". This file contains not only the history but all bookmarks as well. So-o ....... I lose my history but ......... the file doesn't lose size. All my bookmarks are still good. Just the history is somehow wiped out.
There's no precaution I can safely take. I have to wait until the browser is shut down before backing it up or it's not current. Shutting down the browser *MAY* cause the history to be wiped out though. That would make my backup totally useless instantly as well.
It happened to me today again. Inexplicably, I lost all my history. No crashes ........ nothing I can finger.
I happened to have a backup from last Friday which was good but .... it leaves me a week in arrears.
