I've downloaded Privoxy and am in the process of downloading Kate and Tomboy. They will bring a lot of KDE and Gnome stuff down with them. Also, Opera 9.6. And I'm beginning the second time to configure stuff :^).
It does seem noticeably faster, both KDE and the apps I've got so far. If I can make it work on the tower and feel like it might be stable, I'll install it on my laptop using Mandriva 2008 as backup. All my data files interchange seamlessly between Cooker and 2008. But I'd probably not do any kernel updates, though, only security and app updates unless I get it under control on the tower.
