The new Internet Explorer is due out "really soooon" now. Maybe Q1 2009. Maybe..... But it's beginning to shape up somewhat. This review of IE8 RC1 gives some hints. Looks like it will continue well behind Opera, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, for the foreseeable future.
BTW, Opera 9.63 and Firefox 3.0.4 are out.
