And I'm careful about what sites I access and what I click on etc.
Running browsers behind DropMyRights assures that no .exe can execute from inside the browser because permissions aren't granted. (Like Linux .... running as user only).
Running in Sandboxie allows any .exe to run but it operates in a virtual environment which prevents any changes to occur to the actual operating system. So ..... you can observe the actions of a virus in Sandboxie if you want to but it doesn't damage anything except temp files (which you then delete).
If you run wireless on a laptop, you're behind a router. So-o ........ you can't be assaulted directly from the internet (at least) because the internet doesn't see your laptop. You can still get stuff from other computers on the LAN if they happen to be infected though .......... so .......... always make image backups of your laptop OS so you can restore in the event of a LAN infection.
I'd much rather spend a little time restoring from a clean backup ......... than fight with a firewall all the time and keep running virus scans.
(I do keep AVG on board for periodic manual checks but I keep it turned off all the time so it doesn't hog resources).
