Pirated software can be dangerous software depending on who did the pirating. My friend the computer doc offered me a free WinXP to play with, and said I could have Vista if I wanted it; from him it would be safe, but I don't have any desire to play around with Windows. Other pirated cheap software, I read, often contains malware; not worth the price. :^) But I've also read where many third world countries have become completely "enslaved" by Microsoft because they used pirated copies of Windows - it was all they could afford - and now they're stuck, their whole system is built on it and now they HAVE to pay Microsoft! I wonder sometimes how many of those pirated OSs were put out by Microsoft itself!?
I've even heard of malware buried in Linux non-free software, except that it's muuuuch easier to detect in Linux.
Songs and movies, though? I'm not into that myself, but don't like at all how the industry associations have acted. I'm thinking it would be more dificult but maybe not impossible to bury executable code in media. Linux would be much safer in that respect than Windows because of its permissions policies.
