I think Virtualbox installs in Windows... try it instead of VM-Ware. I've just installed Mepis 8 in Virtualbox with no problems so far. VB has a thing called 'guest additions' which frees up the cursor, enables sharing the clipboard and designated folders between the host and guest, and other stuff I haven't figured out yet.
