I shouldn't have recommended Virtualbox to you. I had earlier used ver 1.6+ and it worked fine with DesktopBSD and a number of other systems. I've been using ver 2.2.0 now and find it has partially borked my system. I won't have to reinstall the system but VB won't even install now (any version available to me) and it took kwrite with it.
