Actually I'm wondering if it was Virtualbox or the Mepis 8 guest or the Mint 6 host or the RCubed Tech Laptop I'm using. Going to switch to the other computer and start varying things to see if I can tell. According to the Virtualbox forum, there's one known bug in the guest additions which prevents the shared clipboard but noting else. So maybe it wasn't VB's fault. Dunno yet.
When I ran DesktopBSD in that older version of VB, I ran it just to become acquainted. At that time my base distro was Mandriva 2008.1 and I was very happy with it... and didn't see changing. So I ditched DTBSD and went on to check out others. But I don't recall anything wrong with it, and I'll be testing it once more when I get virtualization straight. As I remember, it would serve quite handily as a very reasonable desktop OS, with a good selection of software and very stable. You could do much worse (you could stick with windows
).
And you might check your source's md5sum if you can; several times I caught funky errors that way - it ran, but strangely. ^_^ And the downloaded source proved bad. Good source and it ran, correctly.
