Very possibly, Microsoft may have passed its peak; the recession is taking a toll on their "Make 'em upgrade software and hardware" business model, and their handling of Vista and trying to choke XP off may have hurt. W7 is supposed to help restore things, but it won't change that basic business model... and that is what needs to happen.
Notice that sales fell 6%, but net income fell 32%. Add to that: Our gov't might not have enough gumption to get after Microsoft for predatory monopoly tactics, but the EU doesn't seem to have that weakness; and, there's the possibility that MS will be held accountable for the way they manipulated things to get their OOXML declared a standard. Either could put blocks under MS's wheels, and both together.....??

A wife called her elderly husband while he was driving home: "Be careful dear, the news says there's someone driving the wrong way out on I-35". He responded, "It's not just ONE idiot, dear, there's HUNDREDS of them!!"
