Here is an interesting comparison between Xubuntu 9.04 and Debian Lenny 5.0.1 (also using Xfce). Three things I noticed: Xubuntu had problems installing and had to be reinstalled several times. Debian installed first time. Xubuntu ran out of RAM memory quickly. Debian used only half the available RAM with multiple apps running. Apparently the 'lightweight' Debian is lighter weight than Xubuntu. Xubuntu needed a cumbersome install of the codecs/drivers before its media playback was complete.
