I installed ESword once directly on my computer, but found the online tools to be just as easily available and more flexible, while not taking up so much space on my hard drive.
I use mostly these:
Crosswalk.com, which includes search, concordances, commentaries, dictionaries, and other resources already keyed to the verses I'm looking at.
New Advent Bible, which is also searchable and contains the apocryphal Books omitted from Protestant Bibles, plus link access to many study resources.
Religious Tolerance Org. Their attempts at "evenhandedness" are sometimes laughable, but they offer scholarly and non-screaming examples of the "other view".
Skeptic's Annotated Bible. In boot camp I learned that an important principle of survival is to learn about your enemy. The site also contains a good search.
