It should work and your upgrade should be much less that mine; I started with Sabayon 4.0.
All my upgrades are done, but I'm still having a tussle with Opera. I first installed Ver 10:00, but it didn't do well so I deleted 10 and installed 9.64 but it's still acting cranky. There are some fixes on the forum but the first one blew opera away and I had to reinstall. :'>
