Most Linux distros run under 7 GB with all apps for normal operation already installed (everything free, BTW). There's one which has basic apps and a GUI in 10 MB. That wasn't a typo... ten megabytes (TinyCore Linux). You install the core and then build exactly what you want with nothing extra, which requires skills and curiosities I don't have at this point. My favorites are Mint Linux which in my install topped out at 6 GB, and Antix Linux which topped out at 3 GB.
Windows 7 by itself is how big again? And then you have to add the software? And you have to pay for all of it?

Even Gentoo, the father of Sabayon, is much smaller. I don't know why the Sabayon developers decided to throw in the kitchen sink. But it's an interesting new environment for me, especially the package management system, and I'm going to learn about it. Maybe later I'll throw it away, maybe not; I've got plenty of disk space.
