Sabayon was "interesting" but its interesting features aren't worth the trouble. It turns out to be very touchy in system upkeep; example: Today I did an update and it put up a dialog box wanting me to assent to a license; I clicked "accept"........... and nothing happened. Not crashed, just nothing happened; and it wouldn't let me continue with the update until I accepted the license. A similar thing happened on the last update. Sometimes things work and sometimes they don't. Phooooey! It's gone.
I find I'm really really liking Mepis 8 using the debian testing repos. Seems like everything works, it's fast, and it's "cheerful"; it isn't quite bleeding edge like Sidux or Mandriva Cooker, but it doesn't crash like they did and it's usually only a week or two behind sidux. I'm looking also at Mandriva 2009.1 and PCLOS 2009; but it's hard so far to see any advantages for either over Mepis. And Antix-M8 using the debian stable repos makes a very good and stable host for the virtual machines; its main advantage is that it uses very little system resource so more is left over for the guests.
