Dave, I'm running Ultimate Edition 2.2 in live DVD mode right now and writing this using it. UE is so bloated that it takes a long time to fully boot up from the live DVD. I'm also not too keen on the default black theme, but overall, UE is not a bad Ubuntu derivative. Just like with its parent Ubuntu 9.04, I can even scan with my all-in-one in live mode! I've not been able to do that with any other live CD/DVD of an OS until Ubuntu 9.04.
