I finally installed Mint 7; had to order an install CD from OSDisc. My laptop's CD reader just won't read home-made CDs although it will read professional CDs. Computer doc is looking for me another CD/DVD RW for the tower.
So far I have no issues with Mint 7. I've enabled all the available repositories and done the update. I installed Opera 9.64 instead of the overnight build as the laptop is my "production" machine and I don't fool with it much (do all my experimentation on the Tower). But Mint does pretty well on its execution of the gnome desktop (and I'm almost always a KDE or Fluxbox man). I'll install many of the KDE apps, and maybe the desktop too in order to have the alternative, but I might continue with Gnome.
I don't think it ACTUALLY loads that much faster than Mint 6; maybe some, but the way they've arranged the opening sequence, it sure does FEEL faster :^>. Not quite Moblin but closer than before!

An Emacs reference mug is what I want. It should hold ten gallons of coffee.
