Over the last 6 months or so, our phone has been ringing after midnight, randomly on certain nights. It's not EVERY night, thank goodness but on the nights it happens, there will be from 2 to a dozen calls, going up to 4 AM sometimes. There's never an answer on the other end; it simply disconnects within a few seconds.
Since I'm an old-tech guy, I've never thought there was much I could do except to turn the ringer off for the night. Then I discovered that this new Skype phone I bought recently, will actually display the number of the caller. Neat.
So I copied down the number, which is 403-234-8169 for possible future use.
I was talking to my young friend on Skype tonight, (who happens to be a tech-type too), and he told me that it's the very same number that's been harassing him. Furthermore, he said he had phoned Telus (our local line provider) and the technician had told him HE'D been bugged by the same number.
It seems NO ONE is able to do anything about it. If one CALLS that number, it reports that no such number exists. Putting a block on the number apparently doesn't work either.
I rang *57 after one of these calls and a trace was put to the line and then a message to call the police. I called the police and was told there was little THEY could do about it either, unless it was malicious or dangerous. The woman dispatcher advised me to change my phone number! (Imagine that. How helpful).
So I googled it, just for fun and sure enough, this number has been harassing people since way back in 2005 already.

Sheesh, you'd think that after 4 years of constant harassment to dozens of different people, "SOMEONE" would have gotten to the bottom of this issue by now, eh?
