Someone in here, please help if you can.

QUESTION: Is a laptop designed to REPLACE a pc??

I wanna get rid of all these dang wires so bad!! And the laptop seems just the ticket, but I don't wanna cut myself short in regards to power and performance. In other words, what if I buy a laptop and I find it's not the same as a pc. I have never owned a laptop, so I wouldn't know the first thing about it.
