Not much to go on, John
. Here's all I can think of at the moment:
1) How do you use your computer? Very casually (a few emails and maybe 20-30 minutes every couple of days browsing the web, nothing serious? Or do you like to listen to music , watch movies, browse seriously, do books, write documents, more serious stuff? If very casual, you can just get something cheap and it will serve.
If serious, you won't be happy long with something cheap. You'll want: better cpu speed (1 GHz +), better ram memory (2 GB+), larger hard drive (50 GB+), ports for usb and other good stuff, larger screen (it's minimum 17" for me).
2) Search the internet about various computers. Type 'laptop' into google. Look for sites that have several computers and describe them. It will familiarize you a little bit with what's offered.
3) Type the name, model, etc, of the computer your friend wants to sell you into google. See what stores want for it, and private sellers (e.bay/amazon, etc). Also see what kind of comments people leave about it.
Basically, if you don't USE a computer much, then you can afford cheap. But if you do, you won't be happy with cheap. If you can give some specifics about cpu, ram, hard drive, etc, maybe we can help more.
Did you get your previous question answered?
