And I don't really know the reason why it does that.
Normally, when I boot up, I hear a little noise from the printer as it's verified and connected. If I DON'T use the printer for a long time though, that little verification thing stops when I boot up .... and then when I go to use my printer, it says that the printer can't be found. (Same idea as it being "off line").
I pull the power plug out of the printer and plug it back in and presto! ........ there it is. A little dingle from the speakers indicates a usb connection, the light in the printer comes on and it proceeds to warm up. Why it would lose power connection seems ridiculous but it works every time.
If your printer happens to be wireless and not usb-connected, there's a chance that the firewall is blocking printer access. In that case, you'd have to open the firewall and allow the printer to have automatic access to your computer.
