Yes, you're right; mine are updated from earlier version 2 or somesing.
I'll have to try it.
One trick I always use is to install Firefox (or Netscape, actually) ...... then shut it down and grab the repository of the configured Netscape from somewhere else .... and switch it with the one I just installed. Then, when I open it up again, I have everything configured the way I want and am used to.
So, like, with XP, that folder resides in
Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\f9ytr75x.default .
By making a copy of that last funnyfolder right after installing/configuring Firefox -or after an update- and storing it somewhere ..... this folder can be switched with a fresh installation of Firefox and one is right back to where one was on the day it was stored.
This is how I "configure" ALL of my browsers ... be it in another machine or in a virtual machine. (Works for other programs as well).
But yeah ......... no "normal" person is going to do this and so the cookie problem becomes a real issue for them.
