Jack: Have you ever tried Crunchbang? I've got version 9.04 installed in Virtualbox. It uses the openbox desktop manager, which is QUITE different. But the Crunchbang wiki has some good info, and some good faqs and how-tos. I did figure out the copy/paste issue with the guest additions, but I still haven't found how to turn on sound. Openbox is similar to Fluxbox.
One thing I notice is that Conky very seldom reports CPU usage over 45%, even when downloading music or installing/updating apps.
