I got to a desktop in Yoper's live CD, but it wouldn't connect to the internet. Then I decided to TRY installing and the desktop was compressed into a very narrow strip under the top panel and was duplicated 3 times across the window's width (plasma failure). So I tried safe mode from grub, intending to clean out KDE 4 and replace it with KDE 3.5, but it wouldn't connect using wget, so phoooey.
Paldo is fast, but it turns out to have an unbelievably complicated package management system if you aren't satisfied with their very limited repo and need something from source. I would almost have to become a developer myself just to install, for example, the newest Opera from source. I got Opera 9.64 fairly easily except the package manager (upkg) is pretty slow. Also, upkg is completely command line, and isn't intuitive even looking at a cheat sheet, and I'd have to write everything in XML if I wanted to configure it or do any compilation.
Paldo is for people who can give advice to experts! :^) It's a little more than I want to learn all at once.
