Just a thought: I think you had Norton's before when your computer got slagged up and started running reeeeeaaaaal slooooooooow. That's what I remember, anyway. The problem with Norton's is that it protects very well... against stuff that has been around for a while, but doesn't protect against new stuff that it doesn't yet know about. It can be weeks before Norton's catches up with the new stuff and, by then, there's newer stuff. It's the new stuff that gets into your computer because Norton's doesn't yet know how to protect against it. Norton's is better than nothing, IMHO.
A router is the little box that plugs directly to your modem. It allows you to connect several computers to the modem all at the same time - and it also has a built-in firewall. So it's a good idea even if you only have one computer connected. And this firewall operates transparently so it isn't near the pain in the rear that the firewall inside a computer is.
WPA is the security installed in the router to protect the wifi part so unfriendlies can't get in to bother you. WPA is a stronger security than WEP and harder for a hacker to break into.
Just Norton's might not keep you going well for very long.
