for you, to show a progress bar.
If you download email with large attachments, you will probably see the progress bar. However, if you don't have your own local IP email service and get email on a service like Google, homail or yahoo ... you WON'T see that ... because you aren't downloading anything; you're just viewing it as a website.
Where you see the progress bar and the percentage of time left and the speed indicated in *bits/sec. is when you download files or music to your own machine.
Another little explanation about "type of computer" .....
Basically there are two types of computer: old Apple computers and PC's (personal computers). PC's are called "I386 platform." Since about 2003, Apple has converted to the I386 platform as well ...... so ......... essentially, all home machines now, are the same.
What makes computers different from one another is the different kinds of hardware in the machines, made my different manufacturers. Overall though, they all work the same.
Where people tend to get confused is in their perception of what makes computers tick; what makes them unique and distinct.
It's not the computer itself which sits there as a physical box, doing your bidding; it is SOFTWARE making the machine do ITS bidding.
So like, Dave runs Linux operating systems ... Jack runs Mac ..... and you and I run Vista and XP. Our computers are all pretty well the same thing but we run different software operating systems on our machines.
