If you can run two work stations in the same vicinity, (ie, you and him in the same room with each on your own computers) .... that is ideal. Then you can simply turn OFF the wireless section of the router and forget about configuring it. You will be absolutely secure. You don't need any configuration if you both use a cable between your computer towers and the router. In fact, you get better speed too, by using only cabling.
It's the wireless section which causes most headaches. But wireless is so NEAT, most people simply cannot resist getting bogged into it!~
