Posted by the rev All who would call themselves Christians must believe this. This is considered an essential belief, and if one considers themselves a Christian they must believe this. A great question however is, are only those that call themselves Christians saved, "Lord, Lord, and I shall say depart from me I never knew you" 2. aside from that (if that is an essential belief (i think it is)) what MUST a christian believe. Depends on what local branch you are going to, as I don't consider myself a Christian any longer, but a follower of Christ I believe that all one must believe is that Christ was sent from the Father to lead us back home, and to follow him, using the bible as our map, prayer as our telephone, and good works as our car. 3. maybe more precise than no. 2 would be what CAN a christian believe and still be within the confines of no. 1? I would say God has much more grace than we do, and only he can judge hearts. If one truly decides to follow Christ, and is dedicating themselves to that they will find God, and who are we to decide when they are saved and when they are still seeking i'll go back to my extreme examples. someone says god told me to murder people with blue eyes. is any christian going to go along with that? no. but why do we hedge on other things, like, for instance, divorce. Some Christians went along with something very similiar to that, in more than one circumstance, and many used the bible to justify themselves. I believe that divorce is horrible, and will be married until one of us dies. However, if one does not accept the mandates of scripture, and do not know me personally, why would they give a shit what I thought. I believe the bible gives us the truth, but without the Spirit can be used in evil ways, therefore my dependence on the Spirit and relational guidance of each other. rev, don't you think that there is authority in the scripture for christians to chastize their brothers in a christlike manner? Yes I do, but I also believe that just because you have the authority does not mean your authority will be accepted. Most people will trust only those they respect, and they respect people for a variety of reasons, some not valid. If we would concentrate on the one anothers, we would speak truth from a platform of love, acceptance and respect, therefore having a more postitive impact. the rev
