Yes, EA was much more talented than WL. Yes, so were San Antonio and Houston. Heck, even the T-wolve had a huge athletic advantage. All of those team have also been together and with the same coaches for at least one year prior to this one.
WL split their D1 talent from their JPW team last year and WL Black fielded a mostly new coaching staff. The WL Black coaches preached fundamentals, discipline, teamwork, and effort. It won them two previous Centex championships and now has won them a third, as well as a state title.
One may think that the reason for WL's success is the coaching. In part, that is true. Tough to argue with the head coaches record. However, great coaching doesn't help if the kids are not coachable with a burning desire to succeed. From my vantage point, the WL Black kids seem to hold on to every word their coach speaks and want desperately to please him. If you have these types of kids, it makes it easy and fun to coach.
