Question for all the organic growers out there...
I shifted over to an organic fertilizer regimen three years ago and this year I decided to add a organic liquid seaweed/kelp application to my normal schedule to help with overall growth and maintenance of my turf and landscape.
I'm using the normal recommended application rate through a high quality hose end sprayer, using a 1oz/Gal of water rate.
Results have been good so far and I'm happy that I'm adding it to the landscape. However, I started noticing that after the third application (applying once/month) that some of the Itea virginica shrubs are showing what appears to be "leaf burn" or "discoloration" on some of the leaves.
Some of the large grasses, like Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light' are showing "discoloration" on the cream colored margins of the blades.
Turf and the other plants in the landscape aren't showing similar issues or signs of other stress.
So, is the application rate too high or the amount of time I'm spending on the impacted grasses/shrubs too long that I'm applying to much?
Or are some of the "lighter colored" leafed plants in the landscape just a bit more sensitive to this type of fertilizer and I just need to adjust my application rate or duration to these types of plants?
