If you're in the South Jersey area and looking for something fun to do on Halloween night, I've got a great recommendation for you. It's the Haunted Trail in Newfield located at 1593 Tuchahoe Rd. It's put on by the family who owns this 10 acre property and the countless volunteers who help every year. Entry onto the trail is free, but a donation as you exit is appreciated. The trail is only open for 3 nights every year, and tonight is the last night for this year.
My son and I have been characters on the trail for the last 3 years and we have a blast. I've been to many of these types of trails/exhibits over the years, but none can compare to the level of detail and sheer terror of this one. With each turn of the fog shrouded trail, visitors have to go through various shacks of witches dens, dracula's castle, a mad scientist's lab, and many, many, more scary structures. Then there are the various characters roaming the trail ready to jump out at the terrified visitors. Creepy music and screams can be heard throughout the whole trail, and the biggest reward and confirmation that the trail is a success are the endless screams from the visitors from the time the trail opens to the very last visitor.
The trail opens at 6:30 and the line gets closed a little after 9. With the line closing at 9, the last group through the trail finished at 10:30. So if you go, get there early, or be prepared to wait in line.
After the last group leaves the trail, all the characters are rounded up starting at the begining of the trail and walk the trail picking up more characters as the trail progresses. By the time all of the characters are rounded up, there's this parade of ghouls, withces, monsters, etc., all headed back to the family's house for an incredible feast and time to relax around a huge bonfire. Last night we stayed until about 12:30, but something tells me tonight will be a little later and a lot more fun!
