I recentley purchased a fig tree. I was wondering what the growth rates on these things were. I have researched it a little, but im not really getting the kinda info I want. Also, do you think that it has the chance of fruiting this year? (btw, it looks like it is a grafted and rooted cutting.)

None of our figs for sale or in the garden are grafted so I have no idea.
Not to sound snotty or anything but why don't you ask where you bought it from? They would know what it is and be able to give you the proper advice on it. Do you know what the name of it is or did you buy it as "fig"?

I started a White Fig from a small cutling (about 10-12"). It produced figs instantly and I even got ripe fruit by the end of the year. Its been growing about 50% larger each year. If I had it in the ground it would most likely grow much faster since the soil becomes completely dry everyday in the summer (the fig becomes totally wilted as well).

Im pretty sure the fig I got is just a common fig. I know these arent as hardy as brown turkey, but I will trim the extra branches off in the winter and make cuttings from them. After that I will probably wrap the central trunk in burlap and them top it with a coup large plastic bags.
John, good to hear about the instant fruit bearing and the fast growth rates. Thanks for the info.
