Has anyone tried this? I read that it is supposedly hardy to about zero, but the cool thing about it is that if it really does get too cold, you can just pick it up right off your tree or whatever you have it growing on because it has no roots. It is also not parasitic as most people think, it is a bromeliad and it is self sufficient and never kills trees. I might just order some for my oaks.
Over the Years (30+) I have found Spanish Moss from North, or South Carolina is hardy out side in Southern N.J. to roughly 5+ above zero.Providing it is protected from dry north winter winds in a moist sheltered location.Forget the South Florida Spanish Moss it is more tender. Last year some fell off the fence and I forgot about it and I picked it up this spring all of it made it.

I got some from my cousin south of Raleigh, they had some in the yard for years and it was thriving down there. Mine died in the first year, the birds did not take it away either, I think there is ample nest materials here in the grasses so they left it alone. It was in a Bald Cypress overhanging our creek and the winter was mild. I guess its worth trying but I don't think it will last long but I think its easy to get large quantities online.
