1 ALL money made from any homers is spent on tools which are then used 8 - 10 hours a day for my employers work.
2 If any customers(new + existing) call reguarding any problems or to book work after hours then I am there to book the work in for my employer(trust), this has been up to five/six bookings on a saturday for the following week.
3 As I am not limited by time constraints(every hour don't have to be charged/accounted for)on any nightmare jobs I can spend some time doing RD work to enable a quicker diagnosis for a similar problem the next time I see it which will normally be during work hours.
4 Any jobs taken on which turn out to be to big for a "homer" I book in to be done through my work.
5 Any of my friends/family that I would normally do work for who purchase a car still under warrenty I book into my work to keep the warrenty right and they are happy with this as long as I,m looking after their car.
I accept that each situation is differant but ask yourself would you rather have someone working for you who is willing to work extra or someone who cant wait until five to get out the door? and would you rather that person was working safer in your premise with the proper equipment or laying under a car at the side of the road somewhere where he/she might get injured which will then affect your work rate?
None of the above points are in any contract but are my choice to deal with any situation presented so again based on trust.
If people are going to do homers then you wont stop them but dealing with the situation to keep both parties happier will promote a better working relationship which as we all know means a more effienct workforce = more profit!
Most importantly the whole concept is based on trust and I know there are people who abuse the system as there always are but that is down to your own judgement and I think the more staff you have the more difficult this situation becomes.
Just my thoughts,
Sean
