Hi Nigel,
I got myself a website because I thought this was the way things were going and wanted to keep up with the competition. A friend of mine did the website in his spare time so it didn't cost me anything but I'm not sure it's generated much more work. I put my web address : www.mobileautodiagnostics.co.uk
on all my advertising but I only get a few replies through the website. I tried advertising with Yell.com and that didn't really work either considering the money it costs. I think it's a good idea to have a website to show people who you are and what you do but don't expect to get a lot more work through it unless you spend an awful lot of money with search engines and promotion. Just my thoughts.
