Just thought I would repost this reply here I just made to mark Duhigg in a thread about dealer cost of an ABS unit. As I felt it was relevant to the discussion.

Isn't that ridicuous to lay out all that money for 5% discount!! The manufacturers are a joke when it comes to parts supply, I know parts is not their main concern but it is a BIG part of it. The independant sector must be their main source of income from parts. what other industry treats their Clients in this way?
This is one reason why we need quality parts from good independant suppliers at reasonable prices instead of all the counterfiet white box items we seem to be getting these days from the independants. They and the garages that fit this cheap rubish are playing into the dealers/manufacturers hands.
