Many years ago when I worked at another factor we had an escort van which had a timing belt failure causing the usual damage. If I remember correctly it had done just below the mileage, memory is a bit hazy now but if the change interval was 40k it had done 38k or something like that and had not had its out of warranty servicing done at a main dealer (shouldn't matter really as it was not due to be looked at). Now it may have been because it was a large company that they had some sway (fleet markets and all that) but that really shouldn't matter either but the dealer did the repairs free. HTH Shaun
