Hi John, If I had a 2 year old car and something like that happened I would want at least a short motor, not a rebuild. I would say a full engine would be the best way to go as consequential damage that may not be apparent could be present. I would also want another turbo as when the accident occurred backpressure could also damage the turbo vanes. I suppose it depends on mileage and we all know insurance compnies will do their best to wriggle if they can, but a 2 year old Passat is a bit different to a 10 year old Cavalier and for your own peace of mind a warranted unit is better than rebuilding the engine yourself rather than having a comeback in 6 months time and having to do the job (or some of it) again. Better to turn the job away and let someone else have the (potential) problems.
