It's an uphill battle, but you have to re-educate your customers. They need to be told that while spark plugs are more expensive,modern ign systems and engine design mean that they need changing far less frequently and that they are harder to access. Incredibly we still get the occasional request for new plugs and points. Likewise modern synthetic based oils are dearer, but need changing far less often. When I started, Jaguar still recommended new oil every 3,000 miles!
